What does the AntiScam Pango app do?

The AntiScam Pango app helps you spot suspicious messages in real time on WhatsApp, Telegram, and Messages. The AI runs entirely on your phone, so your messages never leave it unless you choose to submit a report.

Which apps does AntiScam Pango scan?

WhatsApp, Telegram, and Messages. These are covered from the moment you switch the app on, and you can turn each one on or off individually under Settings > Apps to Scan.

No other apps are scanned at the moment. If a scam reaches you through Messenger, Instagram, WeChat, LINE, Signal or anywhere else, AntiScam Pango will not check it, so stay just as careful there.

We are looking at which apps to add next, and we prioritise based on where scams are actually reaching people. 

Which languages does AntiScam Pango understand?

English only, for now. AntiScam Pango has been trained on English scam messages, so it is best at spotting scams written in English.

Messages in other languages may not be flagged. If you receive a message in Chinese, Malay, Tamil or any other language, AntiScam Pango may not recognise it as a scam even if it is one, so stay just as careful with those messages. We are looking at adding more languages in future.

Should I use AntiScam Pango or ScamShield?

For most people, ScamShield is the right choice. 

AntiScam Pango is an experimental app for extra protection against scams from WhatsApp and Telegram. This requires deeper access to your phone (like reading your notifications) but processes everything on your phone to keep your messages private. AntiScam Pango is currently Android-only and recommended for newer phones (6GB RAM and above). As some of the features in AntiScam Pango mature, we may explore building them into the ScamShield app.

If you use both, they work in different ways:

  • ScamShield blocks calls and filters SMS from numbers already reported as scams, stopping known offenders before they reach you. You can also use ScamShield to check if you are unsure, and to directly report scams to protect others. 

  • AntiScam Pango reads the wording of messages as they arrive, so it can flag suspicious messages from senders that have not yet been reported.

AntiScam Pango provides an additional layer of protection by detecting scam signals even when a number has not yet been reported, complementing ScamShield’s check and reporting capabilities.

Is AntiScam Pango available on iPhone (iOS)?

Currently, AntiScam Pango is only available on Android devices.

  • Why it’s not on iPhone yet: Android lets apps like ours ask for permission to read incoming notifications from other apps (such as WhatsApp and Telegram) as they arrive. Apple’s iOS does not currently offer a similar feature.

  • We’re working on it: We know iPhone users want to use this too. Our team is actively exploring alternative ways to bring AntiScam Pango to iOS.
