Submitting a Scam Report
How to report a suspicious message and what happens after you do
What exactly gets sent when I report a message?
Before you confirm, the app shows you everything that will be included in the report. In general, a report includes:
The suspicious messages: what they say, when you received them, and which app they came from.
Details about the sender: this may be their phone number, the name you saved them as in your contacts, or the name they use on the messaging app (such as Telegram). This helps the authorities check who sent the messages and take action if they’re scammers.
Details about the app: such as your app version, and an Install ID. An Install ID is a random code that Pango creates on your phone. It isn't linked to your name or phone number, and it changes if you reinstall the app. We use it to filter out fake or repeated reports, so they don't affect how Pango learns to spot scams.
If the message contains an NRIC number, Pango hides it before the report is sent.
Nothing else from your phone is included. You can review all of it on screen before you confirm.
Can I undo a scam report I've made on the app?
Once submitted, a report cannot be withdrawn. But a single report does not by itself mark a number as a scam. Reports are reviewed against multiple sources before any action is taken, so an honest mistake will not get someone blocked.
I reported a scam message. Why was the sender not blocked immediately?
Reporting helps build the case against a scammer, but it does not block them from contacting you. To stop new messages right away, block the sender inside the app you received the message in.
WhatsApp: open the chat, tap the sender's name at the top, then scroll down and tap Block. See WhatsApp’s instructions (opens in new tab) for more information.
Telegram: open the chat, tap the sender's name at the top, tap the three-dot menu, then tap Block user.
Messages: press and hold the conversation in your messaging app, then tap Block. If you use Google Messages, see Google's instructions (opens in new tab) for more information. Steps are similar on Samsung Messages and other SMS apps.
Your report is checked by the authorities, and confirmed scam numbers are passed to the messaging platforms to act on. This takes time. Your report still helps, because it shows which numbers are being used for scams and protects others from the same one.
