Setting up Pango, protection modes, alerts and troubleshooting
Will the app slow down my phone or drain the battery?
The app is built to run efficiently in the background and shouldn't noticeably slow down your phone. Battery use depends on the protection mode you choose:
Standard Protection: Full scanning on any supported phone, with minimal battery impact.
Enhanced Protection (Coming soon): Adds extra sensitivity for subtler scams that avoid obvious keywords. Uses slightly more battery and needs a phone with 8GB RAM or more; the app will tell you if yours supports it.
What should I do if a message is flagged as suspicious?
Take these immediate steps to keep your device and personal details safe:
Do not interact: Never click any links, call phone numbers written in the text, or reply to the sender.
Verify independently: If you think the message might actually be legitimate, contact the sender another way. For a bank or a government agency, use their official website or verified hotline. For someone you know, call them on a number you already have.
Check official anti-scam resources: If you are unsure whether something is a scam, visit scamshield.gov.sg (opens in new tab) or call the 24/7 ScamShield Helpline at 1799.
Will the app warn me about someone in my contacts?
Yes. Messages from saved contacts are still checked for suspicious wording and links.
This matters because your contact may have lost their phone or had their account taken over, and a scam from a familiar name is one of the most convincing kinds. If a contact suddenly asks for money, an OTP or urgent help, check with them another way before you do anything, such as calling their usual number or asking in person.
What happens if a safe message gets flagged by mistake?
The AI errs on the side of caution, so it will occasionally flag a harmless message. Tap Mark as Safe to dismiss the warning and add the sender to your safe senders list, so their messages are not flagged again. Keep in mind that if a safe sender's account is ever taken over, you won't be warned about messages from them.
Your safe senders list is stored on your phone and is not sent to us. You can review it or remove a sender at any time under Settings > Safe Senders.
